Environmental and Social Safeguards

KNCPC is registered by the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) (0183) as a Firm of Environmental Impact Assessment and Audit services in 2004. It is also registered as a Corporate Member of the Environment Institute of Kenya (EIK). Further, the company is registered as a training provider with the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA)

The Centre has been instrumental in the development of subsidiary legislations to the Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA 1999) at the onset of NEMA as an institution, in particular,

  • The Environmental Impact Assessment and Audit (EIA/EA) Legal Notice 101 of 2003,
  • Waste Management Regulations 2006,
  • Water Quality Regulations 2006,
  • Strategic Environmental Assessment Guidelines.
The Centre also provided technical support in formulating
  • The Draft National Environmental Policy,
  • The Industrialisation Policy,
  • The Climate Change Response Strategy,
  • and the National Climate Change Response Action Plans.

On EIA/EA, the Centre was the first institution in Kenya to develop and mount in 2004, training programs in EIA/EA for experts seeking to be registered by NEMA.

The Centre’s staff has also been trained in Sustainable Financing Initiatives by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) to offer environmental and social sustainability services to financial institutions.
