Why you need to train in our courses?

Companies need to comply with the new NEMA Waste Management and Water Quality Regulations of 2006.  In addition to complying we believe that a company that generates more waste is less competitive.  To enhance competitiveness and environmental excellence, investments in both human capacity and infrastructure is necessary. Our courses are meant to prepare your organization for both:

  1. Environmental Impact Assessment & Audit – Targeting the top-notch executives, policy makers, consultants and lead agency staff, you shall successfully gain skills in planning & organizing EIA study, consultation and public participation, decision making, EIA/EA project management, social impact assessment, strategic environmental assessment, review of EIA quality, planning & organizing an environmental audit, material flows & energy balances, review of EA quality among others.
  1. Cleaner Production (CP) and Waste Management – Targeting the manufacturing, services industry, municipality and lead agencies, we shall engage & introduce you to preventive environmental management systems, background on reduction of waste at source, cleaner production practices, cleaner production benefits e.g. waste reduction, energy efficiency, sustainable energy sources and target setting. Remember “Waste is Money down the Drain and the Best Place to Prevent is its Generation at Source.”

This course shall in line with the NEMA Water Quality and Waste Management Regulations of 2006, enhance skills in types of waste treatment systems & design criteria and their management. The goal is to initiate waste savings strategies, waste load reduction and ease compliance. .

  1. Cleaner Enterprise Program Training of Trainers – This course is meant for staff in organizations that are involved in initiating Cleaner Production and related environmental programs.  The 5-day training course prepares them for a 3-month Cleaner Enterprise Program that is offered worldwide by UNIDO/UNEP National Cleaner Production Centres.  The Cleaner Enterprise Program benefits from the support of KNCPC to quantify all waste streams, energy losses, followed by development of Cleaner Production measures that can be implemented by the company to reduce its resource consumption and pollution levels.  Implementation at company level is charged separately.

Mainstreaming CP at University.

The Centre has played an important role in incorporating Cleaner Production in two undergraduate courses, Water and Environmental Engineering, and Energy and Biomechanical Engineering of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). In 2006, CP was also mainstreamed into the Environmental Chemistry degree programme of University of Nairobi. In addition, the center has developed a joint Concept Note with the University of Nairobi on “Education and Training for Sustainable Development in the EAC Sub-Region to mainstream Cleaner Production in university education in East Africa. This will be implemented jointly with other Cleaner Production Centres in the region who are particularly well suited to work with the universities given their practical experiences and close links with industry.

The overall objective of the project is to mainstream Cp in selected degree programs offered at the universities in East Africa. This will help to produce graduates who are well versed in CP and Sustainable Consumption who will further assist businesses to realize their economic and environmental objectives in their business operations. They shall also assist governments in the region to formulate appropriate policies that promote a wide use of CP.
