1.3 GOAL OF THE CP AWARD

The national objective of this CP award is to create an incentive and a recognition system for businesses to adopt Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) for cutting down on their costs of production, minimizing waste and increasing competitiveness.    

Specific Objectives

•    To enhance  efficiency of consumption of resources (energy, water and material)
•    To make enterprises environmentally compliant using profitable and voluntary approaches;
•    To direct public attention towards the importance of Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production as a tool for increased business productivity and competitiveness;  
•    To provide a comparative marketing advantage for firms that win the award

1.4 THE AWARD CATEGORIES
The award categories were designed to encompass the entire working definition of Cleaner Production technologies/ techniques. This includes aspects of capacity building, promotion of team work; demonstrate economic and environmental benefits, occupational health and safety, good housekeeping practices, corporate social responsibility, corporate environmental reporting, level of techno-managerial skills, and visual management.

The following were the award categories:

1.4.1 Overall Corporate CP Award

This was the overall CP Award awarded to the organization with outstanding categories below as well as demonstrating leadership, openness and communication regarding cleaner production

1.4.2  Solid waste reduction award
The Award was for the company that had achieved significant solid waste reduction in the implementation of its cleaner production initiatives

1.4.3  Wastewater reduction award
The Award recognized the company that had achieved significant wastewater reduction in the implementation of its cleaner production initiatives

1.4.4  Reduction in Gaseous Emissions
The Award was for the company that had achieved significant reduction in gaseous emissions through implementation of cleaner production initiatives.

1.4.5 Energy award
The Award recognized the company that had achieved the highest savings in energy and introduced renewables.

1.4.6  Water Use Management Award
The last Award recognized the company that had achieved the highest amount of water use reduction in cubic meters (M3) per tonnage of the product.
